If you tested the wiring on your 2008 Mercury Mariner and it is operating properly but then when you install a wire converter unit the 4-Way flat connector isn't operating properly then yes, I would say that is an indication of a faulty converter/ModuLite wiring unit. In this case I recommend replacing your wiring with the T-One # 118551 as it sounds like you don't have the factory tow package.

It sounds as if you might have shorted out your converter box. I will link you to a video that demonstrates how to test the converter. You will test the wires on the input and the output side of the converter. If you have signal entering, but not leaving the box, it will need to be replaced with the # 118551.
You should also check the fuse where the power wire connects at the battery. If that fuse is blown, replacing it might fix your problem.

Because trailer wiring harness # 118551 requires a direct connection to the vehicle battery, the power wire will be energized all the time because it is connected to the battery. However, with nothing drawing power on the 4-Way end that power has no where to go (nothing is drawing it). So just having the harness installed cannot drain the battery unless something is plugged into the 4-Way and is drawing power.

If the connector has 12v power it is possible that corrosion can cause the power to jump circuits and blow a fuse, though that is not usually the cause. If you do find corrosion in the connectors it is likely that there is also corrosion inside causing issues and the connector should be replaced. Do the brakes seem to work fine when used normally? The Tekonsha breakaway kit # 20020 normally can be used on trailers with up to 4 brake axles. The problem has to do with the amount of amperage draw the brakes are trying to put on the system and not the battery though. I'd look for a short on the trailer's wiring or maybe you have a bad trailer magnet.

It sounds like your interior lights on your 2019 Legend are powered off a secondary battery. The exterior clearance/ marker and tail lights are powered directly from your 2020 GMC Sierra 1500. The small battery on the front is generally only used for electric trailer breakaway brakes. If being used with additional lighting the battery is replaced with a larger unit. It sounds like you may have the power and ground wires reversed. For starters, I am going to assume that you have electric drum brakes. The issue you described of the brakes locking up could be caused by several different things. In order to save yourself some time, I recommend hooking up the trailer to a different tow vehicle or the tow vehicle to a different trailer. This will then allow you to pinpoint which side the issue is occuring on.

From what you have said, it sounds like you connected your wiring to the positive and negative battery connection. When installing the # TK73VR, the ring terminal should be connected to the positive battery cable. Nothing should be connected to the negative.

Your generation of truck has this issue sometimes and the problem ends up being that the third brake light fuse is blown.
